Origin and development of historical event - historical and anthropological perspective on the issue of history of overseas discoveries.

The present master's thesis with the title "Rise and Development of a Historical Event - Historico-Anthropological View of the History of Overseas Discoveries" discusses the rise and development of a historical event through the sociocultural point of view. It discusses how the sociocultural peculiarities of the society at that time influenced the shaping of events that later became an important historical account from the historians' perspective. One of the substantial methodological resources for the present study is the approach developed by Michele de Certeau and his theoretical elaboration of the process called "writing of history". The first chapter deals with the historical anthropology as the methodological approach in the historical investigation. The second chapter focuses on Michele de Certeau and his studies in the field of historiography. In the third chapter there is a historical overview called "The Century of Overseas Discoveries" focusing on the century when the crucial historical events took place - great discovery voyages. The fourth and fifth chapters are based on the previous theoretical texts on historical anthropology and Michele de Certeau. Once upon a time, there was a stranger on the road

v anglickém jazyce: This thesis mainly analyzes the five-part novel Gargantua and Pantagruel written by the French author Francois Rabelais. Emphasis is based particularly on an inclusion of Rabelais's work in historical and literary context of the period of transformation between medieval and Renaissance society. More specifically, it deals with the author's humanist opinion and his critique of contemporary society, which is the main line of the work itself. The aim of our thesis is especially an attempt to outline the various possible meanings of the terms « road or path » and « stranger » in Rabelais's work and explain the role of these thematic concepts in the author's concept of criticism of society.

The theme of this thesis is an annotated translation. This dissertation is divided into two parts. The first part consists of translation of a part of the book which is related to ethnobotany and distribution of iberoamerican plants. In the second part, I analyse the original text and try to describe shifts and problems that occured in the process of translation. The objective of the thesis is to translate the original text so that the function would be kept and to demonstrate my ability of reflexion in the analysis of the original and translated text.
